Abridged History:

After a long and noted absence, Justin Worth returned to the Bow Beachbums League in 2019. The league expanded from 8 to 10 teams, and in order to accommodate that expansion, offered up an expansion draft with exclusive dibs to the rookie pool of 2019. Inexplicably, neither Worth nor other expansion owner Ryan Varney picked Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray in the expansion. Varney instead took two tight ends and faltered to the back of the league immediately.

Abridged History:

Ryan Varney, or RV as he was once affectionately known, tried his best to remove his Clemson bias during his first year as an owner in 2019. The league expanded from 8 to 10 teams, and in order to accommodate that expansion, offered up an expansion draft with exclusive dibs to the rookie pool of 2019. Inexplicably, neither Varney nor other expansion owner Justin Worth picked Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray in the expansion. Varney instead took tight end TJ Hockenson, in what may go down as the worst pick of all time. The immediate impact was felt: Varney finished his inaugural season 8th in the league.

Abridged History:

Ryan won the first ever league championship with an improbable campaign. Ryan lost the first two weeks of the regular season, then ended up forgetting to check his lineup the rest of the season. In a cruel stroke of luck, his team didn't lose again until Week 16 and secured a championship that was decided by overall record, not by a playoff seeded structure. His squad, led by Adrian Peterson and flanked by the likes of Kurt Warner, Frank Gore and Larry Johnson, survived certainly the most improbable season ever.

But Ryan hasn't seen a playoff berth since. He finished 5-11 in 2009, the year with three quarterback starters. Injuries to Clinton Portis and Steve Smith didn't help, nor did a 220-point loss to Team Spinella as he made a final possible playoff push. 2010 saw a small improvement, going 6-9, but poor quarterback play plagued a roster chocked full of solid backs and receivers. 2011 was the worst campaign yet, and the poor roster fortune of having to keep Matt Schaub served as a precursor for what was yet to come.

Distraught over three-straight terrible campaigns, Ryan withdrew from the league and into isolation for several years. He trained, both physically and mentally, to ensure his performance never returned to such a low, knowing all along he'd one day make a glorious return to the league.

That return finally came in 2016, where Ryan inherited a team with the perfect keeper: Tom Brady. 2016 was a crazy year, with only 4 games separating the last-placed team with the first-placed team. Ryan found himself on the bottom-end of those standings, missing the playoffs once again and spoiling what he hoped would be a Bruce Wayne-esque return a la Batman Begins. Brady finished 14th in overall QB points, while his only top-30 running backs were Jay Ajyai and Devonta Freeman. But Hill's team was solid: he found a steal in Dak Prescott, and had three wide receivers and two tight ends finish in the top-ten in points at their position. The future could've been bright for Hill.

However, he made a giant blunder with his keepers in 2017, selecting Odell Beckham Jr. over the likes of Freeman, Brady or Ajyai. Beckham played in four contests that year, while Brady was a top-three QB once again. Between injuries to Beckham, constant in-and-out of the lineup performance from Ezekiel Elliott, and selecting Bilal Powell as his second running back, Ryan once again faltered in the regular season. He was able to secure two wins over his brother and rival, Austin Hill, while also ending in a controversial tie with Team Spinella, a contest whose controversy led to a rule change the following season.

Abridged History:

Tommy Poitras entered the league in 2016 after several years of resisting overtures to join his childhood best friends. Despite being the best football player of the group in high school and making the New Hampshire-Vermont All-Star Game, he knew his mental acuity regarding the game would cause him great embarrassment should he ever join the fantasy football league.

Poitras made his first blunder with keepers, selecting WR Antonio Brown as a keeper. Poitras wasn't left with much here, but took Brown while owning the first overall pick in the draft. With that glorious pick he selected LeSean McCoy, the lifeblood of his team. Poitras found great value from his quarterback play, getting good boosts from Derek Carr and Tyrod Taylor. He made the postseason in his inaugural season and knocked Team Spinella out in a major first-round upset before falling to Austin Chill in the championship.

Tommy looked to build on a fantastic start to his ownership in 2017. He kept Derek Carr, a promising young quarterback, and showed a lot of gained knowledge from his past mistakes. Poitras was unlucky to receive an early blow with a season-ending injury to RB Dalvin Cook (who would serve as his 2018 keeper) but had some solid pick-ups, including Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, a two-headed monster duo from New Orleans. Tommy finished the season 5-9 in a three-way tie for last place, scoring 600 fewer points than the season prior.

Abridged History:

Sometimes the best way to make an entrance is to brashly introduce yourself to the league. That's exactly what Russell Bloom did in 2012, establishing himself as the enemy of many folks in the league. Bloom changed his team name several times throughout the season, custom-making his name to tactically strike his opponent where it hit them deep. Inheriting a team from Ryan Hill that included top running back Adrian Peterson, Bloom was poised for early success. After drafting rookie Robert Griffin III and Calvin Johnson in his first two rounds, the team appeared to have the top fantasy prospects at each position. Peterson and Johnson didn't disappoint, leading the league in points at their position; Griffin finished 4th despite missing a few games due to injury. Bloom achieved a 9-5 regular season record and a share of the outright best record with Austin Hill. Those two did battle in a devastatingly close title game, won by Hill 400-392.

Once again, Russell Bloom's brazen tactics and successful pedigree brought him success and pissed off his opponents in the process. Despite numerous injuries to Robert Griffin and fielding two poor quarterback replacements, Bloom snatched up 10 wins during the regular season, tied for the best record in 2013. The running back trio of Peterson, DeMarco Murray and Alfred Morris steadied the team, with Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall racking up top-ten receiver performances. After being swept by Austin Hill in three meetings during his first season in the league, Bloom struck back and beat Hill in all three of their meetings in 2013. But for the second straight year, Bloom came up short in the title game. While 2012 was a close contest, 2013 was far from it. Bloom's squad put up only 282 points and were routed by Craig Davis and I Just Cam.

2014 proved how difficult it is to sustain success in this league, as Bloom fell outside of the playoffs for the first time since he took ownership of a team. Once again keeping Adrian Peterson and Robert Griffin, both faced unforeseen consequences that removed them from the lineup. Peterson was suspended for essentially the entire season after whipping his son with a switch; Griffin was once again injured and then watched from the sideline as Colt McCoy ran the offense. It didn't matter that Bloom rolled with the top-scoring runner DeMarco Murray, elite receivers Calvin Johnson, Randall Cobb and Odell Beckham, or 4th-ranking quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. After starting 4-3 despite the treacherous string of unluckiness to hit the roster, Bloom lost four in a row. He only jumped above 400 points in an outing twice, certainly not enough high-powered scoring to earn a postseason appearance.
